Auto Clutch and Reverse Gear Protection

Overview

Auto Clutch helps drivers without a physical clutch pedal operate vehicles that require manual clutch control.

Unlike a simple on/off clutch assist, VisApex simulates realistic clutch engagement using configurable timing and release curves. This provides smoother clutch operation while reducing the risk of missed shifts or drivetrain damage in games that simulate manual transmissions.

Reverse Gear Protection helps prevent accidentally shifting into reverse while moving forward, reducing the risk of transmission damage or unintended vehicle behavior.

Together, these features provide a more enjoyable manual driving experience without requiring a physical clutch pedal.


Why Use Auto Clutch?

Why Use Auto Clutch?

Many modern pedal sets do not include a clutch pedal.

Auto Clutch automatically operates the clutch during gear changes, allowing manual-transmission vehicles to be driven with a two-pedal setup.

Some simulators provide limited or no automatic clutch assistance, making a physical clutch pedal necessary. VisApex removes that requirement by operating the clutch through the Virtual Controller.


Adjustable Clutch Behavior

Unlike basic clutch assists that simply engage and release the clutch instantly, VisApex allows clutch behavior to be fine-tuned for different driving situations.

Regular Shift Timing

Controls clutch operation during normal gear changes, with independent settings for:

  • Upshift hold time
  • Upshift engage time
  • Downshift hold time
  • Downshift engage time

First and Reverse Shift Timing

Provides separate clutch timing for launching from a standstill or engaging reverse, including:

  • Bite point
  • Hold time
  • Engage time

This allows launch behavior to be tuned independently from normal gear changes for different vehicles and driving styles.


Reverse Gear Protection

Some games allow reverse gear to be engaged while the vehicle is still moving forward, which can damage the transmission or produce unrealistic behavior.

To engage reverse, the gear input must remain in Neutral for at least one second. This helps prevent accidental reverse gear engagement during shifting.

This feature is particularly useful when using an H-pattern shifter without a physical reverse lockout.
