The PS3 Eye is one of the cheapest ways to get high-speed webcam head tracking, supporting 320×240 at 120 FPS. At 120 FPS, it works best with good room lighting.
For lower-light rooms, 640×480 at 60 FPS provides good low-light performance with VisApex, making it a practical option when 120 FPS is not necessary.
The PS3 Eye has been discontinued and is generally only available used.

When describing webcam performance, we use the following terms for room lighting conditions:
- Low Light — Lower than normal indoor lighting, such as a room with the main lighting slightly dimmed. The room and the user’s face are still clearly visible.
- Dimmed Light — A noticeably dark room with lighting significantly reduced, or with only limited ambient room lighting. The user’s face remains visible but is substantially less illuminated than under normal room lighting.
- In the Dark — No room lights are intentionally turned on. Illumination comes only from very low ambient light and sources such as a monitor or TV.
